WUMC Senior High Youth Group

The United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) is a well-established part of many Methodist churches. The Senior High UMYF is geared toward high school students in grades 9-12. Our meetings and events are open to all - so bring your friends!

Pastor Nick Perry and and Judy Toone, our Directory of Christian Education, work with our Senior High UMYF group to develop exciting ideas for studies, mission and outreach events, and fun times.

The Senior High UMYF meets on Sunday evenings and then plans outreach and social events at other times. So be sure to check this Web page, the announcements in the weekly and monthly Messenger, or the online church calendar for updates on meetings and events.

Be sure to check out the photos of some of our events this year on the Senior High Photo Gallery page of this Web site!!

Senior High UMYF Schedule

The last regular meeting of the Senior High Youth Group for the 2009 - 2010 school year was Sunday, May 23. We have had an active and fun year as grew in our faith and bonds of Christian fellowship with one another. Be sure to watch the newsletter and weekly announcements for information about other summer events and the schedule when regular meetings resume in September for the 2010 - 2011 school year.

If you have any questions about our meeting dates or activities, or if you have comments or concerns, please feel free to contact Pastor Carmen Perry or Judy Toone. Have a safe and fun summer!

Report on Youth Mission Trip to Walpole Island
Ryan Schupp

In August, a few members of our church went on a mission trip to Walpole Island, Ontario. We stayed in a local event center, sleeping on the hockey rink. During the day, we helped the people of this Native American Reservation with different jobs around their houses. Some of us painted, some fixed a roof, and others built ramps or decks for the resident. There were about 200 workers on the trip and we successfully completed our tasks at around 30 different sites.

Getting to know our resident was also a treat. The five other members of my group and I had the chance to get to know our resident very well. He was very kind and he even participated in our devotions, giving us a unique look from his perspective. He always gave us drinks and freeze pops to keep us cool in the extreme heat. One day he even made us a feast of homemade Native food that was delicious.

Overall, I had a great experience. I became closer with some members of our church, and I also made new friends from all over the country that I will never forget. That's what it was all about ‑ everybody coming together and working for a common cause. I recommend that everyone should go on a mission trip at some point in his or her life. I hope we can set up another one soon and hopefully get more people involved.

 Senior High Stewardship Minimize

Stewardship for Senior High Youth

The senior high class will receive their collection envelopes at the same time the adults receive them. Parents of senior high students, please take time to talk with your youth about reasonable stewardship commitments before they make their pledge. For example, you may need to coach them on how to factor in allowance and other sources of income. Please follow-up with your teen periodically throughout the year to see how they are doing in honoring their commitment. Since the church factors pledges from our youth into our budget, just as we do with pledges from adults, it is important to make realistic pledges that they can honor. With college and jobs on the horizon, now is the perfect time to teach your teen about good stewardship of their money and time! Thanks for your help!
