Have the Wiggles During Church?
In the back of the sanctuary by the Oakgrove entrance is a small bookshelf where you will find crayons and clipboards that your children can use during the worship service. The clipboards are full of different quiet activities such as coloring sheets, connect the dots, and word puzzles. If you need help locating the clipboards and crayons, the ushers will be more than happy to show you where they are. Feel free to use this during the services if you have children with the “wiggles and giggles!"
Infant and Toddler Care During Worship Services
Loving, consistent childcare is available in the nursery from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. September through May and 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. when we have only one service in the summer. Our paging system will alert you quietly if your child needs your presence. If you need directions to the nursery, an usher will be happy to help you!

That Thursday Thing - February 9
The next meeting of That Thursday Thing is slated for Thursday, February 9. Our Biblical women of interest will be Leah and Rachel - two sisters whose intertwining lives make the book of Genesis interesting and challenging! Our studies are often interactive, easy to understand, and the company of women is always enjoyable and fun! Please RSVP by phone or email to Denise Reichard if you are planning to attend (contact information available from the church office at 634-4800). New participants are always welcome, so come and check it out.
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper - February 21
Traditionally, Shrove Tuesday was the last chance to eat foods such as butter and that weren't allowed during Lent - which is why pancakes were eaten on this day! The word “shrove” means to obtain absolution for one’s sins by way of confession and penance.

Everyone is invited to join in our Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper and festivities at WUMC on Tuesday, February 21, at 5:30 p.m. If you are interested in helping out with the preparations, please call the church office at 634-4800.

So, if you would enjoy creating and submitting ads for events a few times a year, please consider joining our team. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Pete Powers.

Vacation Bible School - August 6-10, 2012
Believe it or not, we are already planning Vacation Bible School! The dates for VBS this year are August 6-10. This year we will dive deeper into the waters of God’s Word to discover what it means to have deep faith in Operation Overboard!
Stewardship for Children

Each September, all children ages 3 through 8th grade are given a box of offering envelopes to bring home. Then every week during Sunday school, an offering basket is passed, just like we do in church. During the year, the teachers will reinforce different ways the children can show their good stewardship, either by contributing their time, their talent, or their treasure! If your child did not receive a box of offering envelopes, please contact either your child's Sunday school teacher or Judy Toone.

Thank You from Church World Services

Thank you for contributing to Church World Service through our Blankets+ program. With your help we can continue to assist people overcome by natural and human caused disasters, as well as supporting community efforts to develop sustainable agriculture, reliable safe water supplies, and other means to break the grip of grinding poverty.

Please accept this honor certificate as a sign of our gratitude for your support. We hope you will display it proudly as a sign of our partnership in building a world with enough for all. (The certificate is posted on the bulletin board in the narthex.)

Thank You Christmas Angels

I just wanted to pass along a note of thanks for your kindness and generosity during the Gateway-Longview Adopt-An-Angel Program.  Thanks to you, each of the children and youth we serve had a very Merry Christmas.

On behalf of the entire staff and especially the children of Gateway-Longview, I would like to sincerely thank you for your participation in this year’s program.
Thank you and God Bless,  Robert W. O’Connor

Pastor's Discretionary Fund

Our pastors have a special fund they can use when local families or individuals need urgent assistance. Gifts to this fund give our pastors a valuable tool when they are asked to respond with compassion to those in need. Donations are accepted throughout the year. Checks should be made payable to WUMC, with "Pastor's Fund" written in the memo line.

Knitting Ministry

The Knitting Ministry at WUMC provides blankets and layette sets to children who are baptized at our church. This handmade gift is a loving reminder to families of their child's special day and that they are God's children. If you are able to knit or sew, consider contacting the church about how you can contribute to this unique ministry.

Be a Greeter!
Remember when a friendly face welcomed you at the entrance to the church as you arrived on a Sunday morning? Well, those days are not entirely gone. You too can be a greeter, and you too can once again be greeted at the church entrances.

We are looking for volunteers to help with this important ministry. Families, singles, couples, friends, youth - young and old alike - unite and sign up for your special Sunday to be a greeter. Which Sunday would you like to be the warm and welcoming face of our church? It's easy to do! It is a simple thing you can do for your church to make it a more inviting place for those who worship on Sunday mornings.

Please sign the Ritual of Friendship pad and express your interest by writing “GREETER” in the comments space and someone will contact you. Thanks for your help in revitalizing the Greeter ministry at WUMC!

Building Use and Set Up

We are an alive, active, and involved church - which is something to celebrate! However, to accommodate the needs of all the groups who want to use the church facilities, you need to let the church office know about your plans at least one week in advance of your meeting date so we can have everything ready for you. You can begin this process by either downloading a pdf version of the Building Use and Set Up form or picking up a copy in the church office. Please submit the completed form to the church office and speak with someone in the church office about the availability of the space and equipment you plan to use.
