Conversation Project

The Conversation Project is a national effort to encourage all of us to make the very important conversation with our loved ones about matters that can be difficult and emotionally trying. The time to talk about these issues: the medical, legal and most important, spiritual side of the end of life is right now.  Niagara Frontier City Ministries and Williamsville UMC invite you to join us on Sunday April 30, following the Williamsville UMC Worship service, for a workshop – free of charge – to help you on this path.  See the yellow insert for more information and reserve your space.

Thanks and hugs to our Youth Group

Thank you so much for all the wonderful food you made for our members who are unable to get to church, who may be hesitant to go to the store because of the weather or who just can’t physically get around like they did a few years ago.

I have brought some of those meals to them and they are so appreciative to know that we still care about them. I have always said we here at WUMC have the best kids. Again, thank you and remember that you are the hands and feet of God.

Blessings,

Barbara Saltarella

Methodism 101

Over the next several weeks the sermon focus will explore what it means to be a United Methodist.  Let’s re-discover who we are as a denomination and followers of Christ!

Advent Choir Knows How to Have fun

The Advent Choir at rehearsal and enjoying a Halloween party.  This group knows how to have fun and make a joyful noise!  See Wendy or Judy if you have a child who would like to join us.  You can also send Wendy (wamuso@roadrunner.com) or Judy (jstafford716@gmail.com) if you have any questions.

Dash's Receipts for Open Door Nursery School

Your children may have long outgrown Open Door, but you can still help our wonderful nursery school by saving your Dash’s Market receipts.  For every $100 in collected receipts, Dash’s generously gives Open Door $2.50.  It really adds up and helps our school replace worn items and make improvements.  It’s an easy way to help and it makes a big difference to our little school. Look for collection boxes in the parlor, narthex, or outside classroom doors.

Tangents & Sermon Topic Discussions
  • Tangents is in the parlor!  Join them for a topical discussion of current events @ 9:50.

  • A small group discussion based on the sermon topic or lectionary Scripture readings is offered each Sunday from 9:45-10:45am.  Pastor Gregg and several lay members take turns leading this group.  Stop in to add to the discussion!  Meeting space:  2nd floor in the gym, behind the balcony.

money & mission

Williamsville United Methodist Church will be reaching out in ministry this year with special appeals for mission.  Much of what we do as a church in mission comes through paying our Shared Ministries.  Too often however, we know little of how our giving is ultimately used, and so, we have decided to highlight several specific mission programs that that the United Methodist Church supports.  Our focus over the course of the year on these programs will allow us to grow our Shared Ministry Giving.  These following mission opportunities focus on international, national, and local type programs.

  • Gifts to help girls in an orphanage pursue their dreams

  • Helping to improve the lives of single parents and their children

  • Supporting nomads traveling the country helping to rebuild lives

Throughout the balance of the year you will have an opportunity to donate your loose change to these worthy causes.  Each Sunday in the Oakgrove entrance there will be a receptacle where you can drop all of those coins that weigh down your pockets and purses.

In addition, there will be opportunities to support these mission efforts through Fifth Sunday special appeal offerings in April, July and October, by making donations online, or possibly giving at church via a giving kiosk in the Oakgrove entrance.

As disciples of Christ we are called to make a difference in the world.  What better way to make a difference than to share our resources with those most in need.

Upcoming Beechwood Events

April 30th, 2 PM, Red Blazer Quartet with our own Phil Reynolds…come and hear some wonderful music and say hello to our seniors.  May 7th, 2PM, we will be planting small pots of flowers with our residents. We need 4-6 volunteers for this event.  Summer events to look forward to are: Ben Atanacio and his partner will be providing beautiful “Bells” music; in July we will be looking for wheelchair pushers for the annual outdoor Antique Car Show and root beer floats!; and the Men’s Group will be planning a cookout and will be looking for salads and desserts to be donated by our congregation. Dates for the summer events will be announced in the coming weeks. Contact Lynn Soucise at 573-3676 or by email at lsoucise@gmail.com if you are interested in volunteering or would like to assist me in planning. Thank you.

A Note From Seneca Street UMC

Dear Williamsville UMC,

Thank you so much (again) for your Faithful Giving to help Seneca Street UMC.  This time $325.00.  Needless to say, nothing could continue at Seneca St. without our Friends of Seneca St. Group friends, both with gifts of time and $’s.  You are all angels!!  God Bless and keep you always, in all ways.  Shalom,  Seneca St. UMC

Thank You From UMCOR

Dear Friends in Mission,

Thank you for partnering with UMCOR.  Through your gift, you are helping to provide humanitarian relief when war, conflict, or natural disaster disrupt life to such an extent that communities are unable to recover on their own.

Your gift of $180.00 was received on 1-5-15 for Disaster Response, United States, Advance #901670.  Through The Advance, the designated giving channel of the United Methodist Church, 100% of your contribution will go to supporting UMCOR’s response to disasters in the United States.  Giving through The Advance enables United Methodists to support one another in mission and ministry around the world.  Thank you for partnering with us to “Be Hope” to those who desperately need it.

Grace and Peace,

General Board of Global Ministries

Church World Service Blankets

Thank you for your generous contribution to the work of Church World Service – which we appreciate more than ever in these challenging times.

Your compassionate support is helping impoverished communities by providing food, water, shelter and other necessities to families struggling to rebuild their lives and livelihoods after natural disasters and civil conflict.

I have seen the resilience and the resolve of the women, men and children we assist. And I have been deeply moved by the generosity of people like you, who give hope and opportunity to people in need, here in the U.S. and around the world.

May God bless you for your kindness.

Rev. John L. McCullough

President & CEO Church World Service

Pastor's Discretionary Fund
Our pastor has a special fund he can use when local families or individuals need urgent assistance. Gifts to this fund give our pastor a valuable tool when he is asked to respond with compassion to those in need. Donations are accepted throughout the year. Checks should be made payable to WUMC, with "Pastor's Fund" written in the memo line.
Knitting Ministry

The Knitting Ministry at WUMC provides blankets and layette sets to children who are baptized at our church. This handmade gift is a loving reminder to families of their child's special day and that they are God's children. If you are able to knit or sew, consider contacting the church about how you can contribute to this unique ministry.

Building Use and Set Up

We are an alive, active, and involved church - which is something to celebrate! However, to accommodate the needs of all the groups who want to use the church facilities, you need to let the church office know about your plans at least one week in advance of your meeting date so we can have everything ready for you. You can begin this process by either downloading a pdf version of the Building Use and Set Up form or picking up a copy in the church office. Please submit the completed form to the church office and speak with someone in the church office about the availability of the space and equipment you plan to use.
