Methodism 101

We continue to learn more about who we are as Methodists and even more so as United Methodists.  How is this resonating with you?  Have you learned anything new?  Pastor Heather is looking for feedback and Methodist Messenger “blurbs”.  Send your thoughts to hstierheim@pts.edu or drop her a note on her desk😊

Advent Choir Knows How to Have fun

The Advent Choir at rehearsal and enjoying a Halloween party.  This group knows how to have fun and make a joyful noise!  See Wendy or Judy if you have a child who would like to join us.  You can also send Wendy (wamuso@roadrunner.com) or Judy (jstafford716@gmail.com) if you have any questions.

Dash's Receipts for Open Door Nursery School

Your children may have long outgrown Open Door, but you can still help our wonderful nursery school by saving your Dash’s Market receipts.  For every $100 in collected receipts, Dash’s generously gives Open Door $2.50.  It really adds up and helps our school replace worn items and make improvements.  It’s an easy way to help and it makes a big difference to our little school. Look for collection boxes in the parlor, narthex, or outside classroom doors.

Tangents & Sermon Topic Discussions
  • Tangents is in the parlor!  Join them for a topical discussion of current events @ 9:50.

  • A small group discussion based on the sermon topic or lectionary Scripture readings is offered each Sunday from 9:45-10:45am.  Pastor Gregg and several lay members take turns leading this group.  Stop in to add to the discussion!  Meeting space:  2nd floor in the gym, behind the balcony.

money & mission

Williamsville United Methodist Church will be reaching out in ministry this year with special appeals for mission.  Much of what we do as a church in mission comes through paying our Shared Ministries.  Too often however, we know little of how our giving is ultimately used, and so, we have decided to highlight several specific mission programs that that the United Methodist Church supports.  Our focus over the course of the year on these programs will allow us to grow our Shared Ministry Giving.  These following mission opportunities focus on international, national, and local type programs.

  • Our Gifts Will Help Young Girls Pursue Their Dreams

  • To date we collected $332 for our Shared Ministries which support ministries like Angels’ Haven Orphanage in Thailand. The orphanage specializes in caring for children with HIV and AIDS.  If you would still like to make a donation, just mark M&M on your donation envelope or consider going to the website www.williamsvilleumc.org, clicking on the DONATE button and completing the MONEY & MISSION box.

Teacher, seamstress, dancer, musician, missionary, hairdresser….these are some of the careers the twelve girls living at the Angels’ Haven orphanage dream about.  The orphanage is in Chiang Mai, Thailand and was established to care for children with HIV and AIDS.  The girls, aged 10-17 have been abandoned or orphaned and many of them have HIV.  The ministry of Angels’ Haven has established a sense of family and stability for the girls.

All of the children attend school and the older girls attend a vocational school to help them prepare for their future.  Our gifts will help support basic housing, education and food.  Food is a substantial part of the cost as it is important that the girls east nutritious and substantial food because many of them have compromised immune systems.

On April 30th we collected $206 for this mission opportunity.  If you were unable to make a contribution, please consider going to the website www.williamsvilleumc.org, clicking on the DONATE button and completing the MONEY & MISSION box.

  • Helping to improve the lives of single parents and their children

  • Supporting nomads traveling the country helping to rebuild lives

Throughout the balance of the year you will have an opportunity to donate your loose change to these worthy causes.  Each Sunday in the Oakgrove entrance there will be a receptacle where you can drop all of those coins that weigh down your pockets and purses.

In addition, there will be opportunities to support these mission efforts through Fifth Sunday special appeal offerings in April, July and October, by making donations online, or possibly giving at church via a giving kiosk in the Oakgrove entrance.

As disciples of Christ we are called to make a difference in the world.  What better way to make a difference than to share our resources with those most in need.

A Note From Seneca Street UMC

Dear Williamsville UMC,

Thank you so much (again) for your Faithful Giving to help Seneca Street UMC.  This time $325.00.  Needless to say, nothing could continue at Seneca St. without our Friends of Seneca St. Group friends, both with gifts of time and $’s.  You are all angels!!  God Bless and keep you always, in all ways.  Shalom,  Seneca St. UMC

Thank You From UMCOR

Dear Friends in Mission,

Thank you for partnering with UMCOR.  Through your gift, you are helping to provide humanitarian relief when war, conflict, or natural disaster disrupt life to such an extent that communities are unable to recover on their own.

Your gift of $180.00 was received on 1-5-15 for Disaster Response, United States, Advance #901670.  Through The Advance, the designated giving channel of the United Methodist Church, 100% of your contribution will go to supporting UMCOR’s response to disasters in the United States.  Giving through The Advance enables United Methodists to support one another in mission and ministry around the world.  Thank you for partnering with us to “Be Hope” to those who desperately need it.

Grace and Peace,

General Board of Global Ministries

Church World Service Blankets

Thank you for your generous contribution to the work of Church World Service – which we appreciate more than ever in these challenging times.

Your compassionate support is helping impoverished communities by providing food, water, shelter and other necessities to families struggling to rebuild their lives and livelihoods after natural disasters and civil conflict.

I have seen the resilience and the resolve of the women, men and children we assist. And I have been deeply moved by the generosity of people like you, who give hope and opportunity to people in need, here in the U.S. and around the world.

May God bless you for your kindness.

President & CEO Church World Service

Pastor's Discretionary Fund
Our pastor has a special fund he can use when local families or individuals need urgent assistance. Gifts to this fund give our pastor a valuable tool when he is asked to respond with compassion to those in need. Donations are accepted throughout the year. Checks should be made payable to WUMC, with "Pastor's Fund" written in the memo line.
Knitting Ministry

The Knitting Ministry at WUMC provides blankets and layette sets to children who are baptized at our church. This handmade gift is a loving reminder to families of their child's special day and that they are God's children. If you are able to knit or sew, consider contacting the church about how you can contribute to this unique ministry.

Building Use and Set Up

We are an alive, active, and involved church - which is something to celebrate! However, to accommodate the needs of all the groups who want to use the church facilities, you need to let the church office know about your plans at least one week in advance of your meeting date so we can have everything ready for you. You can begin this process by either downloading a pdf version of the Building Use and Set Up form or picking up a copy in the church office. Please submit the completed form to the church office and speak with someone in the church office about the availability of the space and equipment you plan to use.
