Special Services and Events Throughout the Year

On this page you will find information about special services and events provided at WUMC throughout the year. Join us as we joyfully celebrate Christian holidays, acknowledge special days, and provide unique worship experiences. A few of these special services are listed below.

  • Rally Day in September is an enthusiastic kick-off to our Christian Education program for the upcoming school year.

  • In the Worldwide Communion Sunday service each fall, a variety of breads on the Communion table represent that we are many people gathered together.

  • On Celebration (Stewardship) Sunday, we imagine what can happen inside and outside our church with our growing financial support.

  • A special yearly Advent and Christmas theme helps us focus on the true meaning of the holiday season.

  • Some Lenten seasons include Wednesday Souper Suppers that provide great entertainment, delightful fellowship, and a special time for all to strengthen spiritual growth.

  • Since Pentecost is a core holiday in our church, we celebrate the church’s birthday with a meaningful service filled with beautiful music and candles.

Celebrate Lent and Easter at WUMC

Lent and Easter are a special time at WUMC as we intentionally seek God during this holy season. In the Christian tradition, during the 40 days of Lent we are called to prepare for Easter by experiencing self-examination and penance through study and meditation on God’s Holy Word. Our services during Holy Week help us continue traveling toward Easter and the glorious resurrection that awaits us at the end of our journey. Our Palm Sunday worship service recalls Jesus Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem through praise and music provided by the Chancel Choir and WUMC's family of musicians. At our two identical worship services on Easter Sunday, we celebrate Christ’s resurrection, the triumph of life over death. Please join us us as we celebrate!

Christmas Eve Services

On Christmas Eve, we offer several worship services to meet the needs of families of all ages. Our Christmas Before Dusk service that is held in the late afternoon is enjoyed by those who prefer to be home before nightfall. The Children’s Christmas Celebration that begins in the early evening is a joyful celebration filled with traditional Christmas carols. At 10:00 p.m., we have a traditional Christmas Candlelight Service that is a wonderful way to welcome Christmas Day. Other Christmas Eve services may be offered, so please check our Web site this holiday season; then join us in joyous celebration and worship at Christmas.
