Worship Options at WUMC

Time of Worship Services

Each Sunday during the regular program year, which runs from the third Sunday of September through May, we hold two worship services - one at 9:00 a.m. and another at 11:00 a.m. The 9:00 a.m. service generally lasts 30 to 45 minutes, while the 11:00 a.m. service generally lasts one hour. Christian Education for adults and children is at 9:45 a.m.

During the summer months (June through the second Sunday of September), WUMC has one worship service at 10:00 a.m.

Variety of Sunday Worship Services

CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP: During the 9:00 a.m. service on the second and fourth Sundays of each month our order of worship follows the Contemporary Praise style that includes praise choruses, contemporary Christian music, and drama in a format that is simple and concise! Music is provided by the "CrossWinds" praise band.

TRADITIONAL WORSHIP: Each week at the 11:00 a.m. service we bring praise and worship to God through a variety of prayers, scripture, music, and sacraments in a blended style that uses both The United Methodist Hymnal and The Faith We Sing Hymnal Supplement. Our Chancel Choir, Bell Choirs, and Junior Choir, as well as many talented soloists and instrumentalists, enhance our worship.

WORSHIP ESPECIALLY FOR KIDS - KING’S KIDS CELEBRATION: The third Sunday of each month at the 9:00 a.m. service is a special "King’s Kids Celebration." This service lasts approximately 30 minutes and includes familiar songs and puppets that tell the Bible story. Sometimes an additional story or play is included. No matter what the King's Kids service includes, both kids and adults always hear the Good News in a new way.

TAIZÉ WORSHIP: On the first Sunday of each month at the 9:00 a.m. service we follow a Taizé Worship frmat. During this hour, we worship together using silence, meditative song, readings, and prayer to help us open the gates of trust in God.

Cry Room Available

While we do not have a separate enclosed room where parents can be with fussy children, we do provide a cheerful crib room/nursery that is in the basement level. Loving, consistent infant and toddler care is available in the nursery from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. We have a paging system so you can be quietly alerted if your child needs your presence. Parents are welcome to take their children to the nursery at any time throughout Sunday morning.

In addition, quiet activities are provided for children who are worshipping with their families in the sanctuary. Children can pick up these activities at the back of the church. Like the Children’s Message during worship, the activities are chosen to enhance the morning’s message and relate to the liturgical year and.

Do People Dress Up for Church?

In general, the 9:00 a.m. service has a more relaxed, “business casual” atmosphere than the 11:00 a.m. service. At the 11:00 a.m. service some men wear jackets and ties, and ladies usually wear dresses or pant suits. While we recognize that contemporary styles, especially skimpy tops and low riding jeans, are fashionable for older children and teens, as clothing is selected, we encourage everyone to be mindful that we are entering God’s house for worship.

Handicap Accessibilty and Other Aids

There is a small parking lot behind the church on Oakgrove Drive that includes several parking spots reserved for those with handicapped hang-tags. A door from this parking lot leads to an elevator that can be taken to all levels of the church. The elevator can accommodate a person in a wheelchair or motorized chair. Please ring the bell at the elevator entrance for assistance.

Large print bulletins, hymnals, and Bibles are available in the sanctuary. We also offer comfortable ear-sets that provide improved listening.

Parking

There is limited off-street parking in the lot across the street from the church on Oakgrove. In addition, you can park in the lot near the convenience store and Ed Young's Hardware on Main Street. There is also parking available around the church on side streets and on Main Street.

When is Communion Celebrated?

We celebrate communion in every Sunday morning worship service. People of all ages (including children) and Christian backgrounds are welcome to partake of communion at WUMC. We invite you to read more about the United Methodist Sacrament of Holy Communion by visiting our This Holy Mystery page.
