Friends,
Thank you for your work and prayer over the past several months with the Amherst Church consultant, John Wimberley. The last focus group met via ZOOM with the goal of synthesizing the work of the previous groups to come up with a common vision/purpose for the work of all four churches in the community of Amherst. On Thursday March 5, our WUMC leadership team will meet to discuss this purpose statement and discern Williamsville UMC’s next steps in participation. We hope to share our decision with you no later than Sunday March 15 in worship. Please continue to pray for your leadership team as they do this good work.
In the meantime, please take a look at the proposed statement that was developed by members of all four Amherst United Methodist Churches:
The United Methodist churches of Amherst are creating a collaborative faith community that helps people grow as disciples of Jesus Christ and live out God’s love in the world. Rooted in United Methodist tradition and shaped by the unique strengths of our congregations, we work together to create a welcoming Christian community where people feel at home, are valued, and encouraged. We strive to create a place where worship inspires, relationships matter, and faith can grow. And where, by working together, we can make a greater difference through compassion, justice, and outreach in a changing world.
Peace,
Pastor Heather
